About FigureCrunch

Last updated: 2026-10-04

FigureCrunch is a small independent project built around one idea: serious financial tools should be usable without signing anything away.

What we do

We publish focused calculators for everyday financial decisions in the United States — what a mortgage actually costs, how fast savings compound, what a raise looks like after tax, whether an investment beat the market, and how much retirement income a balance can sustain.

Each tool is self-contained: no login, no email capture, no downloadable spreadsheet required. Everything computes client-side in plain JavaScript, so the page keeps working even if your connection drops.

How calculations are validated

The arithmetic behind every calculator lives in a small testable library, separate from the interface. We check it against known-good references before shipping:

  • Loan payments are verified against standard annuity formulas and cross-checked so total principal repaid equals the original balance.
  • Tax output is compared against IRS tax tables and published worked examples for several filing statuses and income levels.
  • Inflation conversions are spot-checked against official CPI multipliers published for common year pairs.
  • Compound growth results are compared against month-by-month hand calculations.

Data sources

Reference data is documented in the source code of each calculator so anyone can audit it:

  • IRS revenue procedures for inflation-adjusted tax parameters, including standard deduction amounts and retirement contribution limits.
  • Social Security Administration announcements for the Social Security taxable wage base.
  • Bureau of Labor Statistics CPI-U series for inflation conversions.
  • Public cryptocurrency market APIs for price data, refreshed roughly every minute.

How the site is funded

The site is free to use and always will be. It is supported by display advertising served by Google AdSense, which keeps it that way. Nothing we accept changes what a calculator outputs, we do not sell placements inside results, and we do not take payment to rank or feature any financial product.

What comes next

We are adding calculators in the areas people ask about most: student loan repayment strategy, auto loan comparisons, rent versus buy analysis, and small-business quarterly estimated taxes. If you have a tool you wish existed, tell us — the contact page goes straight to the person who builds them.
